Year of the Fire Horse: Will You Harness Its Potential?
Hello and welcome to the year of the Fire Horse in a ONE year. This is the start of a journey that will unfold over the next nine years of our lives. What we start and commit to this one year will set the tone and direction for everything that follows until the next NINE year arrives in 2034. However, the Year of the Fire Horse isn't the only thing happening on 17 February. On the same day, it's also a New Moon Solar Eclipse, and there are also some other astrological things happening in the cosmos. All of these things layered on top of each other will show up differently for everyone. This blog post focuses on the Fire Horse year. I want to invite you to be intentional about what you want to create, how you'd like to move through your life, and to enjoy the journey.
When I break down the two components of the Fire Horse, I think first of the spirit of a horse, or even when I’m physically around them, I get a visceral feeling of forward movement, action, and freedom. For me, it’s more about the energy and feeling in my body. Even if the horse is standing still and I’m petting it and just being in its energy, there is always an underlying coiled energy of being ready at any given moment to spring into action at a moment's notice. Also, I feel an incredible sense of love, acceptance, and an invitation to get on its back and go along for the ride, whether that ride is just a nice walk or an all-out race across the southwest desert.
Now the second component is the element of fire. Fire can represent energy, transformation, passion, and destruction. It can be embodied in such things as willpower, intellect, enthusiasm, confidence, and leadership. Also, the fire element can be associated with our ability to see and feel the physical light of the sun, which illuminates, as well as representing the spiritual light of our consciousness, which dispels the darkness. The fire also invites us to connect with the light within us, bringing greater clarity.
So, when we bring all of these components together, the ONE year and the year of the Fire Horse life is asking us to take the reins of our lives with focused intention, passion, and courage, moving towards not only what our soul is calling for, but also to have the courage to look at what is outside of us. It is clear that the current systems in place around the world are crumbling. This Fire Horse energy, as well as other factors, will ask us if we’re going to be an active participant in the much-needed transformation of these systems to a more balanced, inclusive (and inclusive doesn’t mean you always agree with everyone), and harmonious world. The Fire Horse reminds us to move beyond what feels comfortable, confront what holds us back, and take deliberate action in service of both our own goals and the collective good. Also, remember to have real self-care. Try some breathwork, acupuncture, movement, get some real sleep and rest, and eat nutritious foods. I want to invite you to meet your Fire Horse. Ground yourself and meditate, and if you’re like me, it could be an active meditation. Take a nice walk in nature or sit comfortably and ask your personal fire horse to come to you. If you’ve never done something like this before, give this a try: Take some deep breaths and visualize the breath flowing in and out of your heart space. Once you feel calm and centered, say something like “I call on the fire horse that will be with me for the next year to come be with me now.” And wait to see what happens. Some people may see the horse, some may feel the energy but not see anything, some may hear the sound but not see or feel. There is NO right or wrong way…it’s just your way, and that’s perfect. Once the fire horse is there, talk to it. Perhaps ask if there is a name they would like you to call it. Ask it what it will be helping you with this year? Ask it whatever you like. If you’re really feeling adventurous, ask it to merge with you and go for a ride. I did this, and I must admit I thought I might never get off this horse. I had so much fun. The energy I felt was very invigorating, and I always felt safe. If you meet your Fire Horse, have fun and embrace the energy!
In closing, I pulled an oracle card from the Sacred Destiny Oracle to welcome in the year of the Fire Horse. I asked, “What message would the Fire Horse like to give to the collective?” The message is potential. This card shows a volcano at rest, and even if it has been dormant for a long time, that does not mean it lacks the potential to erupt again. Case in point, the Hayli Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia erupted unexpectedly in November 2025 after being dormant for 12,000 years. The archetype of a volcano is one of wild, unpredictable, and formidable energy. We can liken the energy of a volcano and its potential to the Fire Horse energy we will experience over the next year. Like a volcano, the Fire Horse carries a spirit and energy that cannot be contained. Allow it to illuminate where you have been playing small, not using your voice, not saying “No”, and not setting boundaries, and where you are ready to rise and meet your soul self. Allow your Fire Horse to be your trusted companion throughout this year while you are becoming a more conscious creator of your life and not living life by default. Allow your Fire Horse to support you on your journey, reminding you that you not only have the potential, but also the strength and ability to succeed.
